Description: Bino Gola from Auckland of Italian descent, whom some of you may know, gifted us this Radicchio. A favourite of his, it has been in his garden for many years. He loves it and says that one of its best characteristics is its hardiness. It has tasty red and green leaves (lots of variation) with the classic endive slightly bitter taste.
The plant grows about 1m high and is very resistant to cold, as well as pests and diseases. It is usually grown from seeds, but may also be started from root divisions. Lack of moisture makes the root more fibrous.
Planting Instructions: Sow onto seed raising mix in autumn and cover with 1mm seed raising mix. Prick out at 3 cm diagonal spacing when first 2 leaves appear. Transplant in 3-4 weeks at 25 cm diagonal spacing.
