We are looking for a bright indivual who is passionate about sharing what is happening here at the Koanga Institute with the world. Someone with a keen eye for a good story and a knack for taking awesome photos to place on our homepage and facebook page is a must. Are you keen to learn more about permaculutre? Koanga Institute Forest Garden and Nursery manager
This is a 20 hour a week permanent job working to develop our Forest Garden, which holds a large collection of NZ heritage fruit trees. The Forest Garden exists to not only hold the collection, but as a propagation bank, a research facility, an amazing environment for our apprentices to live amongst, and an educational facility. We have a small research nursery and we support and advise growers in the community who have contracts to grow Koanga trees for sale.
The successful candidate will have at least two years of nursery and propagation experience. In addition, the successful candidate should be a good team player, able to manage apprentices and interns, and be passionate about Forest Gardens. We are also keen to give this job to somebody who is interested in becoming part of Kotare Village, an intentional community, which is home to the Koanga Institute. Six Month Apprenticeship and Contract to Grow Fruit Trees
This is an amazing opportunity for someone to have a self-employed business growing wholesale heritage fruit trees for The Koanga Institute. You will work as an apprentice for six-months, learning the principles of biological agriculture. The successful candidate must be able to work indepedantly, have excellent observation skills, detail-oriented, and able to ask for help when needed. The chosen candidate will work as an apprentice with the nursery manager from April through July, and then begin preparation to start their own business with support and advice in August and September.
Following these months, continued support and advice will be provided on an as-need basis, which is why it is important for the chosen candidate to be able to ask for advice when needed. This position will mainly focus on the propagation of apple and pear trees, but the scope can be broadened. The contract will be for approximately 2,000 trees annually.
