Potato Update February 2012
Over the past 3 years, growing potatoes in New Zealand has gone from being something that was relatively easy to do, to something that many people have given up on, because of the devastating effect of the new psyllid that has spread around the country.

In our July 2011 Catalogue, we published an article on how to grow potatoes, tomatoes and peppers organically and avoid the disastrous psyllid.

In August of 2011, we launched a comprehensive research program aiming to improve the genetic strength of our heritage potato collection. Thank you to all those members and supporters who sponsored a spud, we really appreciate your valuable contribution.

Seed potatoes are sent out in June. The deadline for orders is 30th May. Orders received after this will be sent out while stocks last.

All potatoes can be planted anytime you have 4-5 months of frost free weather ahead of you, which means in many places they can be planted in many months, other places this time frame is more limited. Traditionally planted in Spring and Summer. All of the potatoes we have are very old varieties, often they have come to us from many different places, all over the North and South Island, Stewart Island and the Chathams. All are good croppers given the right conditions.

Stocks of some potato varieties are limited so order early for the best chance of getting your first choice. It also helps our send out process if you indicate your choice of substitute if your selected variety is not available
