Orchard Herbal Ley

Orchard Herbal Ley

Our Orchard Herbal Ley Mix has been specially formulated to support healthy soil, recycling of nutrients from your subsoil, fixing of nitrogen, provision of copious bird, insect, duck and chicken feed, and the best environment for your fruit trees. We have designed the mix so that you will have something growing all through the year. This 1 kg bag of the Koanga Orchard Herbal Ley is enough to cover 20x20 m or (400 sq) metres. We provide you with enough seed to plant thickly, for great results.

The mix includes:-
Alfalfa
Phacellia
Buckwheat
White Lupin
Daikon
Radish
Rape seed
Red Clover
Subterranean Clover
White clover
Yarrow
Plantain
Chicory

We also recommend that you plant a mix of heritage bulbs around the drip lines of your fruit trees. The bulbs grow when the trees are dormant and compost down available nutrients for the feeder roots of your trees in Spring. It is critical to have old fashioned varieties to ensure they are strong enough to survive in a pasture situation. We also recommend that you plant comfrey root, around the drip line area of your fruit trees to recycle minerals from the subsoil to feed your trees.

Directions:
Mix with 3kgs of dry sand or better still 3kgs of Koanga Compost Minerals and Microbes, then evenly spread over your 20x 20sq metre area. If possible rake in a little to keep seed from birds. See Design Your Own Orchard for a whole series of ways of establishing your herbal ley. If you have an area to plant that is smaller than 100 x 100m, then reserve some seed and plant more in Spring / Autumn, or save for bare areas around trees when they are planted.

Koanga Orchard herbal ley seed. This is the only seed we sell that is not organically grown. We have chosen to include this product in our range, as there are no organic growers in NZ who produce enough seed to supply these varieties.
