King George: climbing; green snap, shellout, dry(P. vulgaris )NZ Heritage
P. vulgaris King George NZ Grown in New Zealand since early settlers’ days. Sent to me by Mrs Patterson of Howick who has its history right back in her family to when it was stolen by a gardener from King George’s garden. Very colourful pods - yellow with bright red streaks. A wide, flat short type with a curly point on the end and no strings. An excellent addition to any home garden. Can be eaten as a green bean when young and flat, (it's like an old fashioned butterbean) and is particularly good as a shellout bean or even as a dried bean. (20) |
