Membership

We rely on the support of our members to continue to grow these food plants. By becoming a member of the Koanga Institute, you will:

  • Be supporting the work of the institute to maintain the viability of our Heritage Plant material
  • Receive 2 copies of the Institute Catalogue each year. The July edition has a full seed list, the February issue focuses on our heritage fruit trees. You'll also receive the annual Koanga Gardens, center for sustainable living catalogue. (e members recieve this via email only)
  • Be entitled to 2 free Preservation packs of seed from each Institute catalogue.
  • Have access to propagation material from our fruit tree collection.
  • Have access to our rare and endangered plant material via our back order system. This collection includes potatoes, garlic, onions, strawberries, bulbs, artichokes, waterchestnuts, kumara and more. 
  • receive a free copy of the Institute Booklet How To Grow Nutrient Dense Food, written by Kay Baxter valued at $9.95 (e-members - order this to recieve it with your first seed delivery)
  • receive a monthly e-newsletter full of inspiring and instructive information about what's happening in the garden, with recipes and tips, as well as updates about what is happening at the institute.
  • Be able to attend Koanga Workshops at a discoutned rate (bookings essential).

Membership Options

E-membership

Entitles you to order from our electronic catalogue, 2 free packets of seeds from the preservation pack list in each catalogue. You will also receive monthly newsletters by e-mail.

New Zealand Membership

Entitles you to receive 2 Koanga Institute publications per year. One is  focused on the seed collection and includes the seed list of endangered seed available only to members (we have excess seed of some lines which is available to the public in the Koanga Gardens centre for Sustainable Living Shop) , the other is focused on the Northern Fruit Tree Collection and  contains loads of information about the history, culture and access to this collection, as well as an Autumn planting seed list. You can also receive a monthly e newsletter.

Community Gardens and Schools/Marae Membership

Full benefits as per NZ membership, for Community Groups, Schools with gardens and Marae. A mixed bundle of 10 packets of seeds will be sent, along with the "How to grow Nutrient Dense Food" booklet, and a "Save your own Seeds" booklet, both written by Kay Baxter. Please nominate just one email address per membership.
