Chatham Island Potato SPONSORSHIP for 2011

This potato is one of the cultivars that was grown very early, on the Chatham Islands by the Maori and exported around the Pacific to Australia, New Zealand and for ships stores for the whalers sealers and missionaries. It is very similar to Whataroa, which is one of ouroutstanding cultivars, and may have once been the same. We keep them separate beacuse they came from diffrent sources and have amazing stories. It is a purpley coloured blotchy with cream patches on the skin, Purple streaks under the skin and a hard dense waxy cream coloured eyes.
